  • 12-9-21: Dr. Valles has been invited to present TXST’s project on Industry 4.0 Digital Twin to the Industry 4.0 – Strategies for Success! Virtual Seminar at CETYS University System in collaboration with American College of Thessaloniki.
  • 12-8-21: Dr. Maria Resendiz (PI – Dept. of Communication Disorders) and Dr. Valles (Co-PI) were awarded $10,984 from the Research Enhancement Program at Texas State University for the development of the Emotion Validation Dataset.
  • 12-6-21: Homayra was awarded as Best Presenter for her paper titled “Debris Object Detection Caused by Vehicle Accidents Using UAV and Deep Learning Techniques” in the Machine Learning and Security session track at IEEE-IEMCON 2021
  • 12-4-21: Dr. Valles’ and Mahbubur’s collaborative paper, “Ensemble Training With Classifiers Selection Mechanism,” wins the best paper award in the category of Algorithms and Theories at the 2021 IEEE UEMCON

  • 9-29-21: Tamima was awarded the Travel Grant from ACM SIGHPC to Supercomputing (SC21)  in St. Louis, MO.

  • 7-10-21: Dr. Valles has been invited to be part of the Digital 360 Summit 2021 – Smart Factory & Industry 4.0 Panel. A premier event for senior executives driving industry digitalization, decentralization, and decarbonization.
  • 6-14-21: Dr. Valles has been invited to the “International cooperation through science. The experience of 100,000 Strong in the Americas” panel for the Remote Experience for Young Engineers and Scientists (REYES) Program by the Embassy of Mexico in collaboration with Old Dominion University.
  • 6-11-21: Dr. Valles has been invited to serve on the Organizing Committee for the IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference (WCNC) 2022 as the Social Media Chair. Homayra Alam will serve as a volunteer in the conference with the Social Media team.
  • 6-9-21: Dr. Valles has been invited to speak at the IEEE 7th World Forum on the Internet of Things for the Topical Program: Computing Track in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • 5-13-21: Dr. Valles and Rezwan won the Best Presenter Award in the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning session at the IEEE AIIoT Congress 2021.
  • 5-13-21: McKay De La Vega will join the HiPE group for the Summer as an undergraduate research student!

  • 4-13-21: Dr. Valles and Rezwan’s paper, “An Audio Processing With Ensemble Learning Approach for Speech-Emotion Recognition for Children With ASD,” was accepted to the 2021 IEEE World AI IoT Congress (AIIoT’21). [To be presented in May 2021].
  • 4-9-21: Uma successfully defended her thesis!
  • 4-2-21: Oscar Resendiz has joined the group for the Dell research project in the Spring
  • 3-12-21: The group has been sponsored and partnered with Dell Technologies to perform a Hardware Benchmarking Performance Analysis Using Machine Learning Models for their AI Data Science Workstations (DSW) and mobile solutions.
