We want to welcome Md Masrur Hossain Rakin to the HiPE research team for his upcoming thesis research work!
Dr. Valles‘s collaborative paper “Low-Cost Sensor Fusion Framework for Organic Substance Classification and Quality Control Using Classification Methods” was accepted to the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Future Machine Learning and Data Science (FMLDS2025), Los Angeles, USA.
Dr. Valles is a Co-PI for the awarded NSF-CREST Phase I Center for Ultrawide Bandgap Semiconductor Device Materials, $7,500,000.00 with Dr. Edwin L. Piner (PI – Physics), Yoichi Miyahara (Co-PI – Physics), and Ariful Haque (Co-PI – EE).
Zaheen Afroz Simin has successfully defended her thesis titled “Secure Bidirectional Communication in IoT-Driven Utility Networks Using Sertainty UXP and LoRaWAN“
Dr. Valles‘s collaborative papers “Motor Fault Diagnosis Across Variable Power Using Deep Learning,” “FPGA-based Matrix Multiplication Accelerator,” and “Image Restoration With Variational Dynamic Memory Net, U-Net and Lnns” were accepted to the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Computer, Information, and Telecommunication Systems (CITS 2025), Comar, France.

Jamal’s “Electrical Integration of Autonomous Agricultural Bot” is his work under the USDA’s AnimalCareBot Project
Alyssa’s “Developing Artificial Intelligence Models for Predicting Cattle Movement, Behavior, and Emotion,” and collaboration with Elysa Jimenez from the AnimalCareBot project, is her work from the USDA’s Leading Hispanics program.
Dr. Valles was invited to talk at the Department of Physics Colloquium, and will present on “Neural Operators for Physics-Informed AI in Ultrawide Bandgap (UWBG) Semiconductor Research.”
