The HiPE research group will be at the Austin AI Alliance – State of AI in Austin 2026 Innovation Showcase, together with the TXST Center for Analytics & Data Science (CADS), sharing how we’re building AI-enabled systems for smarter sensing, decision-making, and high-performance engineering.
Dr. Rashik Shadman has joined the HiPE group as a Postdoc Research Associate, and Junwoo “Jay” Jang has joined the HiPE group as a Ph.D. student for his dissertation research, both within the TXST Crest Center in UWBG and AI.
Prashant Panta has joined the HiPE group to conduct independent HPC research under the IDEA Center at TXST.

Dr. Valles’s collaborative paper, “Edge-AI Framework for Air Quality Index (AQI) Forecasting with Quantized Deep Learning Models,” was accepted for presentation at the 2026 IEEE 16th Annual Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference (CCWC), UNLV, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Annabella Wagner‘s, Evren Aslan‘s, and Daniel Marimekala‘s paper, “Predicting Toxic Gas Levels in Structure Fires Using Machine Learning,” was accepted to the 2025 IEEE 16th Annual Ubiquitous Computing, Electronics, and Mobile Communications Conference (UEMCON–2025), held at the IBM Learning Center in Armonk, New York.
Dr. Valles’s collaborative papers “Forecasting Sea Water Level Using Deep Learning Models for Enhanced Coastal Flood Management and Mitigation,” “Utilizing AI to Support Conversations in Individuals with ASD,” and “The Use of Machine Learning to Model Player Readiness in Female Collegiate Volleyball Players” were accepted to the 2025 IEEE 16th Annual Ubiquitous Computing, Electronics, and Mobile Communications Conference (UEMCON–2025), IBM Learning Center, Armonk, New York.
